Another lovely day in paradise! But light winds – a little uncertain about the direction at first, eventually moving around to the north east. Elaine and Steve Whittle took advantage of the ideal conditions to venture out of the harbour and put their new Vision through its paces around the buoys. It was also good to see Iris back in Garrucha, hitching a ride with Barrie in a club Wayfarer accompanied by Jacquie and Finlay. Their enthusiasm is a great reminder of this year’s successful Open Day which has brought us a number of keen new members.
Of the six dinghies out on the water four decided to join in the racing. Unfortunately we got off to a late start due to the mystery of the missing yellow buoy at the start line. Somehow it had become detached from its anchor so John’s first job with the rescue boat was to rescue the buoy which had been blown ashore onto the rocks! After eventually recovering the buoy we managed two races. The first two lap race was completed in just under 34 minutes by the first boat home. The wind freshened and you can see what a difference it made when the second two lap race was completed in just over 18 minutes by the first boat home.
No capsizes or major incidents to report this week, but the beer tasted very good back at the Oficina.
Thanks to John and his crew for their good work on the safety boat.
