The Santa Irene Sailiing Club, Garrucha and Mojacar, may not have had their usual dinghy race but they still took to the water.
The weather forecast may not have been perfect but the boatyard was filled with club sailors as per normal. After a delay, in hope that the winds would moderate, the sailors gathered at the slipway where they found that the strong off shore winds were making it very tricky to launch. The strong gusts were particularly difficult. First to go was new member Andy, who shot off on his Lazer to pave the way. Phil and Rudolfo were next in one of the Flying Dutchmen followed by Jim and Judith in the Wayfarer. Before long another FD with Jurgen and the club Wayfarer with Clair, Maggie and Dave joined them and the Lark with David and Stuart. Sailing was mainly restricted to the confines of the harbour but as the wind eased they ventured further out. Eventually the winds tailed off to virtually nothing at times by 14:00 hours but afterwards at the aprés sail at the bar, most agreed that it had all been worthwhile.
If I have missed a boat and crew or the names are incorrect, please forgive me, we have a number of new members and I was busy in the safety boat ably handled by Nigel.
